Description
- In overall very good original condition.
- There are no dents, dings, bends, etc. in this molding.
- The surface has very light and shallow scratches
- none deep enough to catch the fingernail and, will polish out.
- The retainer clip is solid and the rivets are too.
- The rubber on the clip is partially missing.
- The screw mount slots are slightly bent but each will flatten out again once mounted.
- This is the original GM part # 3926242 retainer for 68-69E cars
- It measures 18-1/2″ outside length and is “square” on each end.
- GM changed this part in the 69 production year to part # 3966640 which is 19-1/16″ long
- This is also tapered on the top end.
- In the 1970 Corvette parts manual, there is a note that molding 3966640 can be used for early 1969, and all 1968 models, but it will be necessary to grind off 1/2″ of the top (tapered end) of part 3966640 and relocate the mount hole/slots. Allowing for a 1/16″ for the grinding operation, you would end up with an 18-1/2″ long molding, with square ends, that you still need to relocate the mount holes so that it will fit your 68 or early 69.
