Description
Threaded section is 5/16-24 threads x 5/16″ long. Shoulder is 7/16″ diameter by 3/16″ long.
We have now had 2 instances where the diameter of the “shoulder” area on these bolts was too large for 1954 Corvette’s. In each case, the 1954 cars were built early (one car was SN 300). In both of these early built 1954’s the diameter of the shoulder of the original bolt was 0.430″. So, please measure the diameter of your existing bolts to be sure our bolts are the right size for you. We actually had an original hinge pivot bolt with a 0.430″ diameter shoulder that we shipped to one of these 54 owners and it worked fine for his needs.
To support this also, we have a reproduction hinge assembly. We disassembled this hinge assembly and measured the diameter of the pivot bolt. The diameter of the shoulder of the pivot bolt on the reproduction assembly was 0.500″. When this change in shoulder diameter occurred, we do not know. But, we did want to pass this on to you 53-57 owners. If your original bolt has a 0.430″ (plus or minus) diameter shank, you will need to have these bolts machined down if you use your original hinges.
